Petition to Improve Funding and Transparency in Ontario's Provincial Schools

The Ontario Human Rights Code guarantees the right to equal treatment in education but the Ministry of Education, which directly controls Ontario’s Provincial Schools, is not meeting its obligations to children who are deaf, blind, visually impaired, or deafblind.

Ontario's Provincial Schools are underfunded, experiencing severe teacher shortages, and poorly maintained. They are the subject of multiple allegations of discrimination and abuse. These schools do not have elected trustees, but the Minister of Education is refusing to be accountable for them.

Furthermore, the decisions related to the education and safety of students in Ontario's Provincial Schools need to include representatives from the deaf and blind community who know what accessibility actually entails.

Add your name to demand that the Minister of Education improve funding, transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in Ontario's Provincial Schools and to request that the Auditor General conduct an audit of Provincial Schools to assess whether standards are consistent with the AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
